Laboratories
Laboratories coordinated by PPGNS professors:
1) Nutrition and Population Health Research Laboratory: 40m2, with computers, nutritional assessment equipment and statistical analysis and food consumption software.
2) ELSA-ES Research Center: Clinical and biochemical laboratories, interview rooms, consultations, measurements, and auditorium (120 people).
3) Dietetic Technique Laboratory: 60m2, with equipment and utensils for developing new products: oven, stove, bain-marie, freezer, knife mill, ovens, insertion thermometers, analytical scales, etc.
4) Food Technology Laboratory: 40m2, with sensory analysis booths, refrigerator, stoves, microwave, juice extractor, mixers, juice centrifuge, bath-type ultrasound, digital viscometer, refractometer, pH meter, B.O.D. oven, precision scales, sealer, grinders, etc.
5) Nutritional Assessment Laboratory: 50m2, with scales, tetrapolar electrical bioimpedance, plicometers, anthropometers, sphygmomanometers, etc.
6) Food Analysis Laboratory: 66m2, with incubation ovens, refrigerators, autoclave, water bath, colony counter, spectrophotometer, centrifuge, magnetic stirrers, Sohxlet, nitrogen distiller, water distiller, muffle furnace, exhaust hood, etc.
7) Experimental Physiology and Biochemistry Laboratory: equipment for Western blot and ELISA; assessment of body adiposity and bone density and biochemical tests; portable ultrasound (BodyMetrix); segmented bioimpedance and spirometry for rats.
8) Strength and Conditioning Laboratory: Equipment: isokinetic dynamometer, strength platform, cycle ergometer for lower limbs, cycle ergometer for upper limbs, contact platform for jump assessment, multifunctional portable dynamometer (PowerDin) and photocell system.
9) Cell Culture Laboratory: For the culture of primary cells and permanent cell lines. Equipment: laminar flow hood, CO2 incubator, vacuum suction pump, water bath without stirring, centrifuges, microscopes, autoclave, among others.
10) Laboratory for Study Design and Scientific Writing: It has 15 new computers equipped with statistical programs.
11) Clinical School Laboratories:
Multiuser I: 50m2, used for meetings, discussion activities, tutoring, group work, research and intervention studies and social impact activities with the community;
Multiuser II: 45m2, used for clinical studies, with bioimpedance devices (Inbody 270, Biodynamics 450), digital scales (300kg), stadiometers, plicometers, bioimpedance scales, computers and nutritional assessment software (Dietpro);
Multiuser III: 45m2, used for epidemiological research. It has 8 computers on individual tables, equipped with statistical programs. It supports the activities of the PPGNS and the Nutrition course.
Offices: Three offices equipped with computers and equipment for nutritional assessment, for health care, research and extension projects;
CCS/Ufes Multiuser Laboratories:
1) Biomolecular Analysis: Equipment: Real-time PCR system, differential scanning calorimeter, HPLC, analytical columns, spectrophotometers, Peltier thermostated system for spectrophotometer, microplate reader, ultrasonic bath, centrifugal evaporator, lyophilizer, water ultrapurification system, etc.
2) Cellular Ultrastructure Carlos Alberto Redins: Equipment: Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopes, microscopy image acquisition system and software; metallizer for biological and non-biological material; critical point dryer; microtomy, etc.
University Hospital:
Another structure that is part of the PPGNS research development field is the Antônio Cassiano de Moraes University Hospital (Hucam), of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (Ufes). It is a healthcare institution that carries out teaching, research and care activities. Hucam is a hub for disseminating knowledge and good practices in health, bringing together research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, residency programs, courses and events.
